SanwoOlu Urges Residents To Stay Calm, Over Cash Scarcity

Following the apprehension and confusion caused by the scarcity of the newly redesigned Naira notes and the inaccessibility of the new currency, the Lagos State Government has urged Lagosians and other residents in the state to remain calm.

The call, according to a statement signed by the Commissioner for Information and Strategy, Gbenga Omotoso, followed tension and crisis being caused by the slow release of cash through Automated Teller Machines, ATMs, and within banking halls.

In an effort to finding a lasting solution to the crisis, Governor Babajide SanwoOlu on Friday, February 3, joined a delegation that met with President Muhammadu Buhari in Abuja, to deliberate on measures to remove the hardship caused by the scarcity of the new currency.

Speaking after the meeting, Sanwo-Olu urged residents to remain calm, as the government is doing everything possible to normalise the situation.

The Central Bank of Nigeria, CBN, had earlier ordered the all commercial banks in the country to immediately start paying the new Naira notes with a N20,000 daily limit, across the counter.

The Apex bank also promised to put other measures in place to ensure Nigerians have access to the new currency notes released to banks.
