The Independent National Electoral Commission, INEC, has officially declared incumbent Governor Ahmadu Fintiri of the People’s Democratic Party, PDP, winner of the 2023 Adamawa State governorship election.

The official announcement came days after the State’s Resident Electoral Commissioner, Mr. Hudu Yunusa-Ari, controversially declared Aisha Dahiru Binani of the All Progressives Congress, APC, winner of the supplementary governorship election in the state.

The Commission had on Monday suspended Mr. Yunusa-Ari for usurping the powers of the Chief Returning Officer and unilaterally returning the APC Candidate, Aisha Binani, as duly elected when collation had not been concluded.

Announcing the fresh results, INEC said Fintiri scored a total of 430, 821 votes to defeat the candidate of the APC’s Aisha Binani, who got 396,788.

According to INEC’s Chief Returning Officer, Fintiri polled more votes than other candidates, including Aisha Dahiru, popularly called Binani of the APC.

Both Fintiri and Binani polled 827, 649 votes, representing over 70 percent of the ballots cast by the 876, 387 accredited voters across the state.
