President Bola Tinubu has met behind closed doors with the Chairman of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission, EFCC, Abdulrasheed Bawa, at the Presidential Villa, Abuja.
The meeting came barely 24hours after Tinubu, in what many Nigerians see as a proactive move, ordered the Department of State Services, DSS, to vacate the Ikoyi office of the anti-graft agency.
A statement by Tunde Rahman had explained that the President gave the directive when his attention was drawn to reports that the DSS had locked up the EFCC office on Awolowo Road, Ikoyi on Tuesday, preventing the anti-graft agency’s officials from accessing their work station.
The President had said; “if there were issues between the two important agencies of government, they would be resolved amicably.”
Bawa, who arrived at the Villa few minutes after 2pm was immediately ushered into the President’s office complex.
The purpose of the meeting has not been officially made public, but it may not be unconnected with the alleged disagreement between the EFCC and the DSS, over the ownership of the Ikoyi office.
Tuesday’s episode followed a long standing rivalry between the DSS and the EFCC over the ownership of the building.
The EFCC had expressed shock at the manner in which operatives of its sister agency denied its operatives entry into its Lagos office.
However, the DSS denied the claim, describing it as “not true.”
