There are indications that Ondo State has been thrown into confusion, as nobody seems to know the whereabout of the State Governor, Arakunrin Oluwarotimi Akeredolu.
NigeriaCheck Newspaper gathered that since the Governor was rushed to Germany for an emergency medical care immediately after the All Progressives Congress, APC convention, in March, and secretly returned to the country about few days after his trip, nobody seemed to have seen him in the public space.
We learnt that the governor, who is now said to be in an undisclosed location in Ibadan, Oyo State, was allegedly advised by his doctors in Germany to be discharged due to the serious nature of his illness, which has reached an advanced stage and has defiled all medical treatments
Meanwhile, sources said the state was thrown into serious confusion on Saturday, June 3, as the rumour claiming the Governor has died went public, after a blog posted the news.
This is coming amidst efforts by some members of the State House of Assembly to impeach the Deputy Governor, Lucky Orimisan Aiyedatiwa.
This is also coupled with another plot by the same House of Assembly members to impeach the outgoing Speaker of the Assembly, Bamidele Oleyelogun, ahead of the 9th Assembly’s valedictory session.
These developments, our correspondent gathered may not be unconnected with inside information about the rumoured death of the governor.
To this end, armed policemen, in large numbers, were seen on Friday, cordoning off human and vehicular movement from the Assembly.
Shortly after the policemen had taken over the Assembly premises, a purported letter of resignation of the speaker appeared on social media.
The Speaker however denied resigning, as Speaker of the outgoing Assembly.
He attributed the purported resignation letter to the machination of a certain cabal plotting to cause chaos in the state.
However, in an effort to downs the tension in the state, the state government had shared different videos of Governor Akeredolu being hale and hearty.
Chief Press Secretary to the Governor, Richard Olatunde, had released some videos to fault the rumour.
In one of the videos, the Governor was seen dancing, singing and joyously praising God for keeping him alive.
Also reacting to the rumour, State Commissioner for Information, Bamidele Ademola-Olateju, described the rumoured death, as untrue.
Ademola-Olateju, in a statement, urged members of the public to ignore the rumour.
According to the statement, certain persons seek to draw political mileage from the disinformation.
He noted that the Governor has been indisposed, but has been attending to state matters and delegating functions to functionaries of the government, when necessary.
The statement reads: “We have been inundated with calls and messages concerning the state of health of the Governor, Arakunrin Oluwarotimi Akeredolu, SAN, CON. We had chosen to ignore this wicked fabrication until it appeared that certain persons seek to draw political mileage from the disinformation.
“Though the Governor has been indisposed, he has been attending to state matters and delegating functions to functionaries of the Government, when necessary.
“We enjoin the members of the public to ignore the rumour. Aketi is very much alive.”
