The National Industrial Court, sitting in Abuja, has restrained the Nigerian Labour Congress, NLC; Trade Union Congress, TUC, and its other affiliates from embarking on a nationwide strike, over the removal of fuel subsidy.
The labour unions had proposed to commence on an industrial action on Wednesday.
Justice O.Y. Anuwe on Monday granted the interim injunction in a motion ex-parte as prayed by the Federal Government, FG, after listening to its lawyers.
The Court granted the prayers on the motion paper, stopping the strike from going ahead, and ordered the Federal Government to put the labour unions on notice of the substantive suit.
The judge ordered that the defendants/ Respondents be immediately served with the originating processes in the suit, the Motion on Notice, and the order of the Court.
Subsequently, Justice Anuwe fixed the hearing of the Motion on Notice for June 19, 2023.
The federal government and the Attorney-General of the Federation and Minister of Justice are the plaintiffs in the suit, while Nigerian Labour Congress and Trade Union Congress are the defendants.
