It appears Musiliu Ayinde Akinsanya, popularly known as MC Oluomo, may eventually face the wrath of the law, over alleged incitement of electoral violence, during the 2023 General Election.
This is coming as the Lagos State Government said it will not shield anyone found to have engaged in electoral violence, during the election from being prosecuted.
Stating the State’s position, Deputy Governor, Dr. Obafemi Hamzat, said the Governor Babajide SanwoOlu’s administration will not preserve the Chairman, Lagos State Parks, and Garages, from prosecution, if truly investigated and found guilty.
Hamzat noted that the SanwoOlu’s administration had never prevented the law enforcement agency from performing their duties and the Lagos Police Command could re-examine roles played by individuals, during the election and justice be served to anyone that was found of any violation.
He stated this on a popular TV show, on Tuesday, while reviewing the 2023 general election in Lagos, especially the allegations raised by the opposition parties, alleging the election was majorly lawed across the state.
The deputy governor stressed that before the general election, the heat generated online particularly on different social media platforms by the campaign was severe and made everyone read different meanings to messages made by popular individuals across the country.
During the heat of the election, MC Oluomo was spotted in a viral video, saying Igbo people who would not vote for the All Progressives’ Congress, APC, should stay at home.
However, MC Oluomo withdraw his comment, explaining that the comment was a remark to his friend, Uche Nwagbaraodia, popularly called Iya Chukwudi, and not to Igbos residing in Lagos.
In spite of his clarification, the remark elicited criticisms on and off social media, with many Nigerians asking security operatives to arrest him.
“In the case of MC Oluomo, he has come out to say he was referring to one, Mama Chinedu or something. And there is a video of the woman saying he was talking to her and MC has been her customer for years.
“So I do not know the facts. But people should re-examine the facts and if he had truly broken the law, then of course, he must pay for it.”
Dr Hamzat, however, noted that the violence that marred the poll was not across the state but rather, represent less than 10 percent of the polling units in Lagos, urging the opposition candidates to accept the poll outcome, return to the drawing board, and strategies for the 2027 election.
“It sounds very nice that the people of Lagos have decided to renew our mandate, and I have listened to all sorts of commentaries about this election and I think it is very unkind. Very unkind to Nigerians. Lagos has 13,325 polling units.
“Alimosho, for example, has 1,545. But violence was recorded in only three out of them. In the whole of Lagos, only 349 polling units had issues with violence out of 13,325. So if you figure that out, that’s like one percent. You do not need 100 percent in order to get A.
“But unfortunately, people tend to be bad losers, instead of re-examining what happened and how to get better,” the Lagos deputy governor noted.
The APC had won the Lagos Governorship election with 762,134 votes, while the Labour Party, LP, came second with 312,329 votes, and the People’s Democratic Party, PDP, came third with 62,449 votes.
