Insists Obi’s Audio Conversation With Oyedepo Is Real

The management of the People’s Gazette has told the Presidential candidate of the Labour Party, LP, Peter Obi, that it is ready to defend its publication of his leaked audio conversation with the Founder of the Living Faith Church, Bishop David Oyedepo, in Court.

Obi had in his reaction to the viral audio conversation threatened to instruct his lawyers to take action against the news platform, after describing the alleged conversation with Oyedepo, as fake and doctored.

According to the LP Presidential candidate, he had never described the 2023 Presidential election, as a religious war.

Reacting to Obi’s threat, the People’s Gazette, on Thursday, insisted that the leaked audio conversation between Obi and Bishop Oyedepo, is real.

The news platform through its Deputy Managing Editor, Boladale Adekoya, said it stands unflinchingly by its April 1, 2023, publication of the phone conversation between Obi and Oyedepo.

According Adekoya, Obi wants to force them into revealing the source of the leaked audio at trial, but they are prepared to protect their source to any length.

The Deputy Managing Editor noted that Obi’s leaked audio clip was sourced and properly authenticated before it was released.

He said, “The audio and the context surrounding it were properly sourced and authenticated in line with journalism best practices.”

He stressed that the news platform was ready to go to any length to protect the source of the clip, adding, “Finally, we maintain in no uncertain terms that we will uphold the principle of source protection to any length.”
