The Supreme Court has upheld the July 16 governorship election that produced Ademola Adeleke, as the Governor of Osun State.
A five-man panel of the Apex Court gave the verdict on Tuesday afternoon, in Abuja.
The panel of justices held that the Court of Appeal correctly reinstated Adeleke, as Governor of Osun State, after the State Governorship Election Petitions Tribunal invalidated his declaration, as winner of the election by the Independent National Electoral Commission, INEC.
The Appellate Court had in a unanimous decision by a three-member panel of justices, held that the appeal lodged by the People’s Democratic Party, PDP’s candidate to challenge his sack by the Osun State Governorship Election Petition Tribunal was valid and meritorious.
Apart from setting aside the judgment of the tribunal, the Court, in its lead judgment delivered by Justice Mohammed Lawal, awarded N500,000 cost against the All Progressives Congress, APC, and its candidate, Gboyega Oyetola.
But not satisfied with the judgment of the Court of Appeal, the former Governor of the State, had dragged Adeleke, before the Apex Court, challenging his victory at the Appellate Court.
