Outgoing President Muhammadu Buhari has approved the renaming of about 15 airports after some prominent Nigerians.
According to a statement signed by the Head of Press and Public Affairs, Ministry of Aviation, Odutayo Oluseyi, the approval was given on Friday.
The renamed airports include; Akure International Airport now Olumuyiwa Bernard Aliu; Benin International Airport now Oba Akennzua II; Dutse International Airport now Muhammed Nuhu Sanusi; Ebonyi International Airport now Chuba Wilberforce Okadigbo; and Gombe International Airport now Brigadier Zakari Maimalari.
Also, Ibadan International Airport is now known as Samuel Ladoke Akintola; Ilorin International Airport now General Tunde Abdullahi Idiagbon; Kaduna International Airport now Gen. Hassan Usman Katsina; and Maiduguri International Airport now President Muhammadu Buhari.
Others are Makurdi International Airport which is now Joseph Sarwuan Tarka; Minna International Airport now Mall Abubakar Imam; Nasarrawa International Airport now Sheikh Usman Danfodio; Osubi International Airport now Alfred Diete Spiff; Port Harcourt International Airport now Obafemi Jeremiah Awolowo and Yola International Airport now Lamido Aliyu Mustapha Airport.
