Some gunmen have reportedly killed a Pastor of the Redeemed Christian Church of God, RCCG, name withheld, as seven other members of the Church were kidnapped during a monthly vigil on Saturday morning.
We learnt the incidence took place at the Desires of Nations Parish, under Ogun Province 22, Abule-Ori in Obafemi Owode Local Government Area.
NigeriaCheck Newspaper also gathered that operatives of the Ogun State Community, Social Orientation and Safety Corps (otherwise known as So-Safe Corps) have since rescued the seven members of the church abducted during the service.
According to a statement from the office of the State Commander of the Corps, Dr Soji Ganzallo, at about 2400hrs on Saturday, July 1, 2023, the special operation team of the Corps, Owode-Egba Zonal Command under ACC Jimoh Rasaki Omoniyi received a distress call.
The statement by the Director of Information and Public Relations of the Corps, Assistant Commander Moruf Yusuf, noted that call indicated that some members of the Redeemed Christian Church of God, Desires of Nations Parish, under Ogun Province 22, Abule-Ori in Obafemi Owode Local Government Area were attacked during a vigil, while seven (7) members of the Church were kidnapped and the Pastor killed.
Ganzallo said the officers of the Corps were charged to go after the suspected criminals and were instructed to ensure the victims were rescued unhurt. And the officers swung into action immediately.
He further revealed that the efforts of the Corps yielded a positive result as the seven (7) victims were rescued unhurt while one of the kidnappers was killed and many of the suspects sustained serious injuries during a fire exchange.
So-Safe boss also revealed that the joint team of the Nigeria Police and the So-Safe Corps are strategically after the fleeing suspected kidnappers to capture them alive.
He concluded that the corpse of the kidnapper that died during the crossfire had been deposited in a nearby morgue.
